Notables April 2024

Question

If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you! 

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge. You can join the Notables Project by requesting membership in the  Notables Google Group.  Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to review the Requirements of Working on Profiles of Notables on WikiTree Page that has updated information. (For ideas on ways to connect unconnected people and branches, see also the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Notables should fulfill the criteria to have at least one Wikipedia page in any language to qualify as a Notable. But an entry in the country's NATIONAL Who's Who or a NATIONAL Biography is also acceptable as well. 

The Notables team will decide if a Living Notable's Profile can be made Public or not. That means the Living Notable must have at least 3  Wikipedia Pages in different languages. At least two Wikipedia pages in different languages must also include the name of at least one close or nuclear family member (Specifically parents, siblings, spouse or child). If the page should also happen to list grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins in the "other relatives" list, those would also be helpful.

Baseball legend Carl Erskine has died at the age of 97. He was the last of the legendary Boys of Summer who led the Brooklyn Dodgers to victory in the 1955 World Series.

Oh, there's an entire monthly post for notables - great! After the recent Connect-a-Thon, I had posted a request for help with connecting famous literary editor Johann Peter Eckermann. He's currently one of the unconnected notables (although his connections increased from two to nine during the Thon). Anyone able to find the missing links?

Legendary baseball player and manager Whitey Herzog has died at the age of 92. He now has a profile. He is unconnected and needs a good biography with sources.

Sad news to hear - Warwick Davis' wife, Samantha, has passed away. Her profile is now open for those who may wish to improve upon it.

Sammy's profile has a Project as manager, but no Project Box.  that will need correcting.  The bio also should now say "was" instead of "is", and "had" instead of "has" (or that section reworded).  She does not have a Wikipedia page (although she should) but was a recognised actress/actor.  Does she have enough other mentions to get a sticker without the Wikipedia page?

As the family is English, perhaps the England Project might like to be invited to either oversee (manage) or enhance the profile now that the Notables Project in not needed as co-manager?

Unfortunately, she did not qualify for Notables as she had no Wikipedia page. Her roles in films were primarily bit parts, as sadly due to her condition, she had little stamina to do more than that. She had side roles in businesses to help other "little people" but it did not appear that she ever took a primary role in any of those ventures. She was obviously a great help to her husband in his career and supported the family, besides being a Mom to her children. But beyond that, she just doesn't seem to have enough Notable components in her biography to indicate Notable status. I've removed the project from the profile.

Another big one - Allman Brothers Band co-founder Dickey Betts died today. His profile is also open for editing.

Legendary guitarist Dickey Betts just passed away. He was a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band and they are all together now, except for the percussionist. I extended his tree and also started a tree for bassist Berry Oakley who is connected now. Berry, like Duane, died in a motorcycle accident at a young age.

Today (23 April) Scott removed the Notables Project from co-management of the profile of Sean Bean, a Living Notable, and added a Notables Sticker instead.

Why? I thought we were *supposed* to add the Notables Project as a co-manager for Living Notables.

Hi Team,

One of the profiles I created was just added to the Notables Project, which is great.

I do have two more that I think should be included, ones I'm actaulaly related to. Do I just wait for the team to eventually get around to them or can I flag you their id's ?

If deceased, you can add the {{Notables Sticker}} immediately under the Biography line. Then also include a link to their profile from Wikipedia in the sources.

I have created a profile for Jerry Corbetta, who was the lead singer, songwriter, and keyboardist (and occasional drummer) for the 1970's band, Sugarloaf. Turns out his LNAB was different than what it became, and his family is Italian, with Irish on his maternal side. If anyone has an interest in improving his profile or adding to his family, please feel free. He's not currently connected to the global tree, so I'll see what I can do - but if someone gets there before me, I would be grateful for the assist.
