If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you!

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge. You can j
oin the Notables Project by requesting membership in the  Notables Google Group.  Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to review the Requirements of Working on Profiles of Notables on WikiTree Page that has updated information. (For ideas on ways to connect unconnected people and branches, see also the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Notables should fulfill the criteria to have at least one Wikipedia page in any language to qualify as a Notable. But an entry in the country's NATIONAL Who's Who or a NATIONAL Biography is also acceptable as well.

The Notables team will decide if a Living Notable's Profile can be made Public or not. That means the Living Notable must have at least 3  Wikipedia Pages in different languages. At least two Wikipedia pages in different languages must also include the name of at least one close or nuclear family member (Specifically parents, siblings, spouse or child). If the page should also happen to list grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins in the "other relatives" list, those would also be helpful.

I'd like to join the Notables group. I also requested to join the Notables Google group (my email starts with "3pol") a couple days ago, but haven't been approved or denied yet.

I've been working on a prominent Colombian family, and recently added the following non-living Notables:

The "tireless innovator, visionary and charity fundraiser" Jonathan Irwin died last December and his first wife Mikaela Rawlinson also died last month.

Both appear to be on WikiTree, but not married to (or divorced from) each other here.

Jonathan appears to have been an only child and to be still showing as Living Irwin.

Is this the right place to ask that his profile be opened, marked deceased, and made notable?

His Wikipedia profile is marked "has multiple issues", but I'd rather put my efforts into his WikiTree profile first.

by Paddy Waldron G2G6 Mach 6 (61.6k points)
Looks like the profiles were created separately and that's why they're not married up. I've put in a request for access through the project account, so we'll have to wait for a repsonse. Once we determine if the current PM is able to add Notables to the profile, we can then update the date of death and other information. Thanks!
Thanks a million, Scott.

I've got a few notable-adjacent freespace index pages going that people might be interested in.  They are very much inspired by Notables Project pages.

This Is Your Life - I'm well on the way to comprehensive coverage of every guest on the UK version of the programme.  There are plenty of notables in there that need researching, but obviously with a huge British slant.  There is room on the page for the American version or those of other countries, if someone local wants to widen the scope.

Football Clubs - a page to index famous association footballers (and managers) by club.  I'm hoping that fans of individual clubs will start dedicated freespace pages for those clubs that can be connected back.  So far the only one is my own Newcastle United.

And similarly Football Managers has lists of all the managers of England, Scotland, Wales and both Irelands, most of whom don't have profiles and aren't connected.  I'm aiming to also include every manager that has won the English and Scottish League and FA Cup competitions.  But plenty of people to work on there already.  If you're into that kind of thing.

Stephen, based on your suggestions last month, I have been able to add Ian Ogilvy to the list of profiles.

Thanks!  He just popped up on my This Is Your Life page too!

I worked on this profile and his family and was was surprised to discover that he's half Italian. I brought in the big guns, the "Italy Project", to look into his Italian roots further.

A thought crossed my mind about a possible challenge the Notables Project might run to help boost notable CC7s.  I'm just as guilty as anyone when I have connected a (potential) notable of abandoning them without filling out any more of their family.

So how about a monthly (or weekly?) Scavenger Hunt.  Give a list of profiles for people to add and get people to report back with their completed lists.

For example: build a profile for:

1)  A grandparent of a golfer

2) A cousin of a soldier

3) An aunt of an Emmy-award nominee

4) A great-grandparent of a drummer

5) A parent of an Olympic medal-winner

...and so on.

If people want to have a go at doing the above list and posting here we can see if it takes or not...

Very interested in Notables Project, as I have several contemporary notables in my family tree who meet the Notables criteria. One example is Jonathan Cain (Jonathan Cain - Wikipedia), keyboardist for rock bands Journey and Bad English, and writer of Don't Stop Believin', Open Arms, Faithfully. I also have dozens of historical notables who are well-documented.

Contrary to the false notion that has been circulating for a while, you do not have to have a Notable person in your family tree to contribute to the Notables Project.

Just ask to join!

Hi Anonymous, I have just sent you a PM (before seeing this post). There is a new process now for requesting management by the Notables Project of a profile, see here.

For any future Living Notables or living family members of Living Notables, the form to request management can be found on this page.

I have a handful of interrelated people that I'd like to propose for Wikitree. They are either Notables (most living), or family members of Notables. All the family relationships are already described in detail in current Wikipedia entries, and all but one of them has a Wikipedia page. Below is the list, with existing wikitree link (if there is one), Wikipedia link, and relationships. The first line for each one is the name, and in bold, the wikitree privacy level I'm proposing. I'm asking permission to create the profiles that don't exist yet so I can then submit the Notables project form for proposing living notables and family members of notables.

Diana McConnel, Duchess of Wellington (open - not living)

Hi Steve, following on from our Discord chat, I've done TL requests for the four Wellesley profiles. How long that will take will depend on the responses of the existing PM.

In the meantime, Alejandro definitely qualifies to be created as an opened Living Notable and his mother as an unlisted close family member of a Living Notable. Use the Notables Project "Project Management Request Form" found on this page for both profiles once created.

There is an item on the form to add extra information, if you add there for Alejandro, that he is the spouse of Wellesley-18, just to remind me that they need to be linked once the Notables Project has access to her profile.

Thank you! I'll do that tomorrow morning (it's too late here).

Joseph P. Kennedy II appears to meet all the criteria to be a Living Notable.

His father currently has 11 children on WikiTree, with Joseph appearing as
[private son](1950s - unknown)

His mother, also a Living Notable, currently has only 10 children on WikiTree, and needs to be connected to Joseph.

by Paddy Waldron G2G6 Mach 6 (61.6k points)
Paddy, you are correct that Joseph Kennedy II qualifies to be opened as a Living Notable and must be managed by a Project under WikiTree's privacy policy. He has WP pages in more than 3 languages and (unsurprisingly) nuclear family are mentioned in at least 2 languages.

I have put in a trusted list request for the profile from the Notables Project, so in due course we will hopefully have him opened as a Living Notable and connected to his mother.
Thanks, Margaret. I noticed that you had recently connected some of Bobby and Ethel Kennedy's other children to their parents.

Paddy, Joe Kennedy II and son Joe III are finally opened and linked up.

That's great, Margaret.

Hello there

I've been busy again.  I made a list of all the UK singles chart Number 1s, so far going up to 1970.  I've found it very interesting and educational.  I'm trying to include performers and writers, but building up the performer lists first.  Inevitably there are a lot of notable American performers on the list.

To deal with the fact that a large number of performers are in bands, I've made a bands index page.  That way you can click straight to the band from the number 1s page (or I guess from another profile page), and from there you can jump to any members of the band that have profiles (at least if they've been hyperlinked yet).  And see which band members still need to be found/connected.  So far it only includes the bands with number 1 singles in the UK up to 1970, but there's no reason not to keep adding.  I hope at some point someone makes an American number 1s index, I imagine the information is out there.

I thought there might be interest in incorporating this band index feature (which is still very tweakable) to make it easier to jump between musicians and bands, by adding a hyperlink direct to the relevant header (so instead of The Beatles you have [[Space:Music_Groups_and_Bands#The_Beatles|The Beatles]]).  We all know who was in the Beatles but do we know the other members of Tommy James and the Shondells, for example?

So far I've basically just been listing band members, but it could be expanded to managers, technicians, connected acts, discographies, band history (though I'm of the opinion a Wikipedia link should suffice for that).  It's a free space, if you like the band you can put what you want in there, or even better make them their own freespace page we can link to.  I'd be surprised if some bands don't already have existing pages.

Anyway, that's all possible future use, for now I'm very happy with how it works with my UK Number 1s index page.  If anyone wants to jump in and lend a hand adding, linking, formatting, tidying or whatever I'll be very appreciative.  I'm sure I've missed a lot of already existing profiles (certainly some unlisted ones).

by Stephen Corkey G2G6 Mach 2 (24.2k points)

FYI: That's a tremendous amount of work.  I think your #1 UK Singles List , if sourced, might fit into the Music Projects (subproject).

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Notables_Entertainment_Project

I may stop at the 1980s, or I may roll on, as long as I find it interesting it doesn't feel like work.

Once I've put all the performers in then I'll put all the writers in, and once I've put all the writers in then I'll try and find all the existing profiles.  Then put the links in from the open profiles to bands, if they're in bands, and/or the index page.  Living notables and locked profiles are out of my reach, it's up to the PMs and the project if they want to link them up.

Then I can start picking people to connect and profile (although I'm hoping other people might be interested in doing that already).  Maybe we can get a few more "completed" bands.  The bands page can probably be improved a million ways too, there's 121 on there now in chronological order, they should probably be alphabetized.  Now they all have Wikipedia links, at least, and a note of where the band came from.
I've started adding Youtube links so you can listen to any of the songs with one click.  Well, 1952-1956 so far... I'll get there.
