Hello,
my late mother recorded that she had found record of a marriage in the Lewis County Historical Society Library, dated 01 Oct 1846, between Martha Ann Connelly (b. 1822 • Shelby County, KY) and James William Walton Baker (b. 9 APRIL 1812 • Kentucky, d. 2 DEC 1859 • Knox Co. Missouri). Unfortunately, I have not found any scan of that record online. In her will, Martha A. Baker explictly refers to her late husband as James W Baker.
I'm trying to work through the GEDcompare process. The closest WikiTree profile I have found matches James William Walton Baker. The birth dates vary slightly, and in general there seem to be some internal conflicts between dates recorded in the profile fields and those in the Bio text and cited sources. Most of those discrepancies are "within tolerance" for a match. But the profile lists James' wife as Martha Ann Conley, on the basis of a marriage record dated 22 Jan 1847 - also Lewis County, MO, between Ms. Conley and a James A. Baker. That record keeps showing up in online searches.
"Conley" and "Connelly" are close enough that others have considered "Martha Ann" to be the same person - but I consider it more likely that many individuals shared similar names rather than that one individual had multiple marriages recorded - once to "James A" and once to "James W" Baker.
But... I would like to be more sure of the facts, if possible! Does anyone know whether the marriage records for Lewis County Missouri can be systematically searched online?
Any other suggestions would be VERY welcome!
