Ian's CC7 is now a Tree App

I have converted Ian Beacall's excellent CC7 app to be one of the Tree Apps available on every profile (select CC7 VIEW under Tree Apps).  By default it will show you the CC3 of the profile, but if you are willing to be patient, you can change the level and load up to CC7.  Other than this default load behaviour, the tree app should be identical to the stand-alone app.

This is amazing!  What is the icon next to a name that looks like an angel?

It indicates that the person died young (i.e. younger than 16 years).

Am I the first to try this with an individual who isn't connected to the rest of WikiTree?

https://www.wikitree.com/apps/Nilsson-12102#name=Nilsson-12102&view=cc7

I've been working on a tree consisting of 60+ profiles that isn't connected to the main tree yet.  I can run up to CC4 for Nilsson-12102, but if I go any higher than that I get the following error message:

No results obtained when requesting relatives for Nilsson-12102

The tree does go to some of her 3G-grandparents, which would be 5 degrees. I think it probably hasn't gotten to 6 degrees from her yet.

Ah, I just tried running with her father, Ros-461, and I get the error at CC4, while CC3 works.  Likewise, if I go out to her maternal great-grandparents, who are 7 degrees removed from her paternal 3G-grandparents, I can go up to CC6, but CC7 breaks.

Now I've added another generation on one branch, so CC5 works for Nilsson-12102, but CC6 does not.
I do apologise - you have run into an edge case that I did not think of (and did not come across during testing). This happens if you request a CCn and the person does not have anyone at degree n+1 yet. I have already been working on a solution and hope to have it ready shortly. Once again, my apologies for this inconvenience.
Thanks Riël!  No inconvenience really.  I'm glad I could help.
The bug fix has been submitted to WikiTree for acceptance. In the mean time you can try it out here: https://apps.wikitree.com/apps/smit641/cc7/#name=Ros-461&view=cc7
Perfect!  Thanks!
The bug fix has now been released and is in production.

THANKS!  I am enamored of the table format used in this application.  It is useful for an enormous number of tasks.

  • EVERY column can be sorted, top to bottom or bottom to top.  Wonderful.
  • EVERY column can be filtered. Thanks.
  • MATCHES can be partial, chained, and case-insensitive. For example, I can quickly find Henricksdatter-180 if I only remember her LNAB contains "datter", she died in norway, had 2 siblings, and is an ancestor of Kittilsen-6.
  • ALL the most important data fields are displayed succinctly. in an easily visible format

Beyond your intended purpose, I have used it to find profiles of relatives that do not have country names in the death or birth locations, relative whose country names did not yet exist at the time, relatives that do not have birth or death dates, All of this with quick scans.

REQUEST.  I love this format so much, is there a way to encourage all the applications that present data in a table to use this format?

REQUEST.  I would like to use the symbols ">" "<", and "!" to indicate "greater than", "less than", and "not".

REQUEST:  Would it be possible to have the option to reverse the displayed order within location fields (at each comma)?  For example, could we be able to toggle the Birth or Death place column so that "Meling, Strand, Rogaland, Norway" displays as "Norway, Rogaland, Strand, Meling" -- with country first and town/farm last.

BUG:  "-02-" in date fields does not return any matches at all.  "-02" returns data including "1835-02-20".  "02-" returns data including "1835-02-20".  Using this url: https://www.wikitree.com/apps/Kittilsen-6#name=Kittilsen-6&view=cc7

Hi Peggy.

The numerical columns do account for > and < (but not !).

The location columns do what you're asking for.  Just click them a few times to see.

Bug?  The date filter filters on the year.  Why would you be filtering on '-02-'?  (Actually, I think it filters like a text filter up to the fourth character, when it filters on the year (if that makes sense).)
I would filter on '-02-' so that I could get all February entries.

If I filter on '-02' or '02', I would get all month and day entries right?
But why would you be looking for February entries?

Thanks, Ian.  You and the other app developers continue to amaze me.

Re: requests:

  • It looks like you are including this table formatting in the app library.  Thanks.
  • I was misled by trying to use "<" for a text field and by the list going blank on a numeric field as soon as "<" was entered.  Following your suggestion, I found that entering more after the "<" updated the list with data.
  • I thought that I'd seen the country, county, city reversal somewhere, and thought it was brilliant.  But, then forgot where I'd seen it.  Once again, thanks.

Re: bug:

I wanted to send an email something like this:  "Hi, son, happy birthday.  I've just noticed you have 17 ancestors who were also born in this month.  Here's a quick biography of one that you might find interesting: ..."  (Trying to get the kids interested in their ancestors.)  Yes, I understand about filtering on the year.  Certainly, year is much more important than month.  Besides, I can download to Excel and use wildcard filtering.  (I assume.  Haven't tried it.)

Hi Peggy. You could go to the anniversaries page (and use the 'Anniversaries Table' feature of WBE). That lists the births marriages, and deaths of people on your watchlist for this month. The table has a general filter (it will check the whole row rather than individual columns). For only births, you can put 'birth' in the filter.

I hope that helps.
Your wish re a "!" filter option has been granted, and so has searching for "-02-" in dates. :). Please see the updated help text in the app re filtering.
