Simple Search for WikiTree

Question

Here is a nice way to display the ancestors and descendants of a WikiTree profile - if you know the WikiTree-ID.

But there is also a simple way to find the person that you are interested in.

Follow this link - ignore [WikiTree-ID][Go] - and click the Search [︎] icon

You will need to provide at least the First Name or Last Name for a deceased ancestor. And any other search terms that you like. Click the big Search button.

The best results will be at the top of the list.

I have found that providing any name for the Parents is a particularly powerful way of narrowing the results.

This is new - there are probably bugs - please let me know if you see something weird.

I am particularly interested in feedback about the order of the results. I hope that you see the best results (exact matches) at the very top of the list. Below this you should see close matches where a name or year is just a little off. And further down - poorer results. If the order seems wrong to you - please send me your search terms so that I can fine tune things.

I search by spouses as it is not often that you will run into multiple couples with the 2 same surnames.

Yes it is a good trick.

I considered adding fields for a spouse but chose not to in the pursuit of simplicity. What do you think?

As it stands - the same trick can be achieved by using the mother & father fields for the spouse-relationship (and just giving the Deceased Ancestor a last-name). This fails when there is no child. And it is a little obscure.
