Suggestions on how to find a wife's family name at birth

Question

I'm trying to improve some of the profiles I added in a rush during the last Connectathon. One in particular is bugging me because her details were from the census, but I don't know her LNAB, which makes further research challenging.

I have tried looking at children's Birth details on Irish genealogy  but their names are so common in Irish terms, and with only estimates of birthdates based on census, I'm getting so many options.

I'm not asking for people to do the research, but perhaps give me suggestions about how *I* can do the research smarter.

Sometimes her maiden name can be listed on either the death or possibly marriage records of her children.

I looked for the birth records of the children… so far I’ve found Rose and Margaret, both are born in the townland that the census records are for.

I think I’ve found Patrick too, and another brother James.

I’ve added the birth records to their profiles but not created one for James, but left the links to the marriage and James as a comment on Patrick’s profile.

Sorry I just read the bit where you were asking for suggestions … and I hadn’t read properly. Basically I used the census information to narrow down the likely registration district, and looked for Rose first as I hoped it would be the rarest name, then Margaret. Once I’d got two children with the same parents I went looking for the marriage, and Patrick. And yes you are right it was a common name even after narrowing it down. I wasn’t finding the marriage looking for Patrick  so I started looking for Mary McCabe instead.
