Advice for categorization of Guernsey-345

I would like advice or may need help creating a new category for the profile of Elizabeth (Guernsey) Bowrey. She emigrated from England on the  ''Sir William Wallace'', which arrived in Townsville, Queensland on 1st October 1881.

Could I get help creating the new category? Or is there an existing category to use? Thank you!

Why do you want to categorize her? Categories are not a mandatory feature of profiles. Rather they exist to create groupings of profiles that may somehow support research or or understanding.

Categories for specific sailings of a particular migration ship are often useful, and I think that's what you are looking for. Have you drilled down through the categories in Categor:Ships to see if there is a category for this sailing?

Kathy, if you add your request to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Categories_Waiting_to_be_Added_or_Renamed someone (usually Margaret) will get back to you if the category already exists, or will create it if it does not.

Hi Ellen, Maybe it's a "thing" for those of us from former British colonies? It's important for us to know which ships our ancestors sailed on, and who they sailed with. Many interesting relationships were formed on board ship. My GGGrandmother met my GGGrandfather on board an emigrant ship heading to NZ in 1849, for example. To me the ship and the cemetery are the most important social categories to have on a profile. :-)

Great! Thanks Melanie. I now have this added to my list of links as the place for Aussie categories to be birthed. Very helpful.

Kathy

I have it bookmarked (even if I do have to hunt for it!), and I've even learnt to edit it, not post comments!  smiley

Kathy, I thoroughly agree on the value of migration ship categories. There were many bonds among fellow passengers. Sometimes they were bonded before they emigrated (people from the same village traveled together), but many more bonds (including marriages) formed on the ships.

There's a history of some WikiTreers adding categories in lieu of biographical content in the profile, or seeking categories for commonalities that don't have any apparent value for grouping people together (an example of this might be "People Born in February"). Because of that, when I comment in about categories I usually mention something about the appropriate purposes for categories.
Awesome, Ellen! Thanks for your work! :-)
