How to source a large text file

I have a summary of the children's society records for mainly 2 brothers (although 4 siblings are mentioned). in PDF format on my computer. I have copied the text but I wonder how best to record this on each profile. Even condensed it amounts to 4 pages and if I were to just copy it over it would be a wall of text! This isn't published anywhere it is just in my files so I cannot just refer to it. How best to add this very informative info without it overwhelming the profiles. Any help would be great! Thanks

One option is to upload to a free-space page and then include a brief summary and a link to that page on the profiles.  That works well for long documents, wills, etc., that are a source for multiple individuals.

This sounds like a privately held research report. Following the guidance from Evidence Explained, you would craft the source citation (for a bibliographic entry) using the following in order:

  • Author with professional credentials
  • Exact report title
  • Item type (ie, report)
  • Recipient
  • Recipient’s location; in full for your use, but otherwise as [address for private use], use just, say, city and state
  • Report date
  • Item format (ie, original report, or photocopy, or electric file, as appropriate)
  • Owner and contact information

Evidence Explained also provides guidance on how to write a first footnote, which will shorten the bibliographic citation and which could reference a specific part of the report (“p. 3”), and subsequent footnotes, if used, which will further shorten the footnote.
