Proposing to add Derck Brouwer as son of NNS-PPP Jan Brouwer

I’d like to propose adding Derck Brouwer [Brouwer-1947] as a son of Jan Brouwer [Brouwer-859] (note: [Brouwer-859] is a New Netherland Settlers project protected profile).

Here is some supporting evidence:

1) An original Dutch ms. baptismal record & translation – note the images can be viewed on Jan Brouwer’s [Brouwer-1946] profile:

A baptismal record showing Jan [Brower-1946], the grandson of Jan [Brouwer-859], being baptized on June 9, 1695 at DRC Flatbush, Kings Co., Long Island, New York Colony. In the baptismal record this Jan [Brouwer-1946] is shown as the son of Dirck Brouwer [Brouwer—1947] & Hannah Daas. The baptismal record also shows as witnesses a Jan Brouwer [Brouwer-859 – THIS IS WHO I’M PROPOSING AS DERCK’S FATHER] & Jannetie Teunissa [Brouwer-226 – this is Derck’s [Brouwer-1947] sister]

2) Derck Brouwer is mentioned in the “Children” section of Jan Brouwer’s [Brouwer-859] WikiTree biography

3) All the sources that I’ve encountered mention Derck as a son of Jan (a.k.a. Johannes) Brouwer [Brouwer-859]. Some of those sources are:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->a)       <!--[endif]-->“Jan Brouwer of Flatlands and descendants”, New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, vol. 138 (Oct 2007), pp. 250-252.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->b)      <!--[endif]-->Brouwer Genealogical Database (Jan Brouwer, b. circa 1628, d. after 17 Nov 1702), http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~brouwergenealogydata/genealogy/p166.htm#i21417 (accessed Dec 29, 2021).

<!--[if !supportLists]-->c)       <!--[endif]-->Descendants, Jan Brouwer DNA, https://sites.google.com/site/janbrouwerdna/descendants (accessed Dec 29, 2021).

Thank you for any help regarding this proposal.

I have connected Derck Brouwer to Jan Brouwer as his father. Thanks for creating the profile for Derck, and thanks for documenting the information about him.

Many profiles for New Netherland people named Brouwer have been project-protected because the genealogy of some New Netherland Brouwers is very complicated (much research has been published about them over the years) and there seems to have been a high rate of genealogical errors in family trees (and similar "sources") for pretty much anybody in New Netherland who was named Brouwer.

PS - I read your message this morning while I was using the internet from my phone. Unfortunately, on my phone I can't navigate to profiles by ID number (because I can't enter URLs in the browser), and I didn't get back here until just now. Confusingly, this forum does not use the same formatting codes as does WikiTree proper. Links can be created with by entering the full URL (such as https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Brouwer-1947) or copying a formatted link from another webpage, but Wiki-links don't work.

Thanks Ellen. I'm particularly glad to see Derck added as Jan's son, not only because Derck is my 8th GGF, but also because Derck is one of the two "viable progenitor lines" (along with Pieter) for analyzing the Y-DNA of the male-descendant lines which the [https://sites.google.com/site/janbrouwerdna/descendants Jan Brouwer DNA web page] discusses. It will be interesting to see how DNA clarifies the Brouwer family tree.
