Start a One Place Study (OPS) Here! [closed]

Are you thinking of making a One Place Study? Not sure how to get started? Check out the One Place Studies Project.

Post an Answer on this post and include the location you would like to study and send a private message to us so we can add you as the profile manager

We will then create your page, add the categories to nest your page in the correct places, and add the project box. The rest is up to you :)

If you are unsure what else to add to your page, we can lend a hand with ideas, just ask. Remember, your Free Space Page is the front door to your One Place Study. Once opened you are walking in your ancestor's shoes!

We have an OPS Sticker which you can use on the person profiles in your study, but if the profile is not managed by you please remove it if asked by the PM.

Every Study lodged in the project puts another pin in WikiTree's Genealogy Map. Soon the village you started with has overlapped into the next town and then the city beyond. Gradually a country is born.

If you are interested in being part of making WikiTree's Genealogy Map, and making a OPS, come and join us. Everyone is welcome :)

You will be awarded your badge when your OPS is nested in the project :)

I am interested in the Italian comune of Barano d’Ischia, Napoli (NA), Campania, Italia. I assume that I will need to use Italia rather than Italy, and Napoli rather than Naples. For a Place Study, rather than a Name Study, it is not clear to me exactly what naming convention we should adopt as people from different periods of history would have referred to it differently. For example, before Italian unification it was in the “Kingdom of the Two Sicilies”. Should there be parallel indexes for Italian and English WikiTree users? Also, how is it organised in the UK and USA, where political boundary changes have affected many places.

Hi,

I would like to do an OPS for Priest River, Bonner County, ID, USA. It is my adopted home-town and my son-in-law has much family history here, with intermixed relations to all the major families in the area.

I see it says to post an answer, but then I also noticed one little clause that says to link to US History, under each state, where there is a blank slate for Bonner County. I'm not interested in writing the history of Bonner County, but on working on profiles in the area.

I have now realized that I am already doing a one-place-study for several location is northern Lancaster County, PA, USA. The immigrant ancestor, Ulrich Hernly, settled north of the village (now borough) of Manheim in Rapho Twp, and descendants still live on the original farm today. My genealogical research suggests that many of the families in the area have inter-married.

I want to start small, but even the township level in Lancaster County is large. I could use some guidance on this. My thought is to start a one-place-study page on Rapho Township, but focus initially on a portion only (namely the east side) or an early and narrow time frame (say from settlement in the early 1720's to 1800), then later spread in time and geography.

I'm fairly new to Wikitree and have yet to create a page other than person profiles, so I could use help with the page creation, categorization and sub-categorization, etc.

Hi Azure,

I have some information and sources on a number of intermarried families in the Shenandoah Valley region in Virginia, U.S. I have been hesitating to start an OPS because technically this would encompass multiple counties within Virginia. But then there are unique cultural connections within the region that I'm interested in, such as the Shenandoah Germans.

Do you have any thoughts or recommendations for an OPS for the Shenandoah Valley?
