Correct Ukraine name of a city for categorization

I am working on a project tied to Alberta Families that immigrated from Turady, Ukraine.
I would like to create a category for this city, but struggling with how to label it.

Turady [Ukraine] | Arcanum Maps

I am working in the time frame of the 1900's, I've listed one of the examples.

As I know the borders changed so frequently, and on the Canadian documents, the country changes to Austria, Ukraine, Poland and others.

I want to ensure the name is easy to locate for other research for the purpose of categorization, SEO and google as well, but also have it be the correct country

Is it acceptable to name it "Turady, Ukraine" as that is what most people would be calling it.

I'm just learning how to categorize of villages in the modern day area of the Ukraine. The Ukraine was not formed until 1991, so it should not be used for the category.  This area was Russia during the period that Andreas lived.  Can you edit your question and add  Categorization and Russia tags to your question? This will help to catch the eye of more people to help.

It's probably Galacia. I've tagged Russian Roots
Thank you!

It has been my practice, and the practice on most genealogy sites, to use the current name and location of a place in order for all users to be able to find it on current maps. The fact that a country didn't exist at any given time becomes irrelevant as we know, and as you suggest, as the name of the country or the empire it was included in (Austro-Hungarian, Russian, etc.) changed frequently over time. So, for the case of Turady it should be recorded as: Turady, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. Then, if you want to refer to it as it existed in an earlier time period, you can refer to the empire it was part of at the particular time.

Also, as an FYI, the country of Ukraine does not need to be referred to as 'The' Ukraine, as it is not a region, like 'the prairies', or a collection of states, known officially as the United States of America, or the Netherlands. Calling it 'The Ukraine' would be like calling Canada, "The Canada".

Thank you, I knew I didn't need to use "the", it likely ended up in there trying to sort my way through the maze of people, and now adding in trying to read, tag, and transcribe Ukrainian documents.
Sorry, Kristina, I didn't mean to direct that comment to you, as you didn't use 'the' with the name, Ukraine. It was a person who replied to you who did and I mistakenly added my comment to my reply to you.

I find it surprising that so many people still use that phrase, 30 years after Ukraine became an independent state! I guess it is a habit now for many, but I try hard to remind people that it isn't correct and is, in fact, insulting as it treats a sovereign country as if it is still a region of the Russian Empire or part of the Soviet Union.
