John Clark was born in 1869 in Sherston Magna, Wiltshire, England to John Clark and Susanna (Matthews) Clark. His birth was registered in Malmesbury, Wiltshire in the third quarter of the year, with his mother's maiden name recorded as Matthews.[1]
In 1871 John Clark (age 1) lived in Sherston Magna with his father John (28, Labourer), mother Susanna (28), brother Henry (6, Scholar), and sister Elizabeth (4, Scholar).[2]
In 1881 John Clark (age 12, Scholar) lived in Sherston Magna with his father John (39, Dealer In Skins), mother Susanna (39), and eight siblings: Henry (16), Elizabeth (14), Thomas (10, Scholar), Susanna (8, Scholar), Ernest (6, Scholar), Kate (4, Scholar), Samuel (3), and Ambrose (1).[3]

In 1901 John Clark (age 31, Police Constable) lived at Russell Gardens in Lambeth, London with his wife Olive Kate (30) and three children: Ernest William (5), Alfred John (4), and Elsie Rose (0), as well as his brother Samuel (22, Cleaner House of Commons).[4]
In 1911 John Clark (age 41, Police Constable Met Police) lived in Lambeth with his wife Olive Kate (40) and six children: Ernest William (15, Clerk Solicitors Junior), Alfred John (14, Porter Army & Navy Stores), Mabel Edith (8), Harold Thomas (6), Hilda Olive (2), and Jack Leslie (0).[5] Daughter Elsie (10) was staying with John's parents in Sherston.
