James Henry was the eldest son and born on 24 December 1873. He was a sheep farmer and emigrated to New Zealand where he married Rose Pepper and had a family of six: Evelyn, Eileen, Gladys, Amelia, Jim and Geof. James used to take stud sheep to the show in Sydney, and would visit so the family kept in touch a little.
