Roxannie Green
Born September 27, 1878, in Fairfield County, OH,^[1] she married Robert Shirley in Nemaha County, NE on April 15, 1896.^[2] He was born in 1874. They had three children, William McKinley Shirley 1897, Mearl Marie Shirley 1900 and Robert Leo Shirley 1902. She died on September 19, 1905, and is buried at Peru, NE. After her death Robert, being a heavy drinker and not dependable, could not care for the children. Roxannie's brother and wife, Curt and Jane Green, chose to take the kids. They did not treat them at all well, while on the farm, and when Curt and Jane moved to town they had no more use for the kids, so Bob and Mearl stayed with the Leonard South family. By that time, Mack was on his own and had moved to South Dakota.

Roxanna was the daughter of Ephraim A. Green (1845-1923) and Malinda Gertrude Asbel (1852-1930). She was age one year and lived in their home in Richland township of Fairfield county in Ohio in 1880.^[3] Her family moved from Ohio to Nebraska about 1886
Roxannie was married to Robert Shirley on 15 April 1896 in Nemaha county, Nebraska. Robert was the son of G.W. Shirley and Lucy Hutchinson of Peru, Nemaha, Nebraska.^[4] They had three children:

1. William McKinley 1897-1918
2. Mearl Marie Squire 1900-1972
3. Robert Leo 1902-2000

She was living in the household of Robert Shirley in Otoe precinct of Otoe county, Nebraska in 1900 with two of her three children, William "Mac" McKinley and Mearl Marie.^[5]
Otoe county is just to the north of Nemaha county. Her burial place has not been found.
