Biography

Charles Whitfield was born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England.

Charles Whitfield was born in 1864 ^[1] in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England, the son of John Whitfield and Isabella Hutchinson.

In 1871 Charles was with his parents and 4 siblings in Middlesbrough. ^[2]

His mother died in 1872 and his father remarried later that year.

In 1881 Charles was with his father, stepmother and siblings in Middlesbrough. His father was an engine driver; Charles was an engineer's steward. ^[3]

He married Annie Langley in 1880. Their marriage was registered in Guisborough, Yorkshire. ^[4] The couple had at least 11 children.

In 1911 Charles, a night watchman at a marine engineering works, was living with his wife and 8 children in Middlesbrough.^[5]

He died at sea, presumed drowned, at the age of 58 on 13 September 1922. He was a steward on the SS Nicolas. ^[6]
