Biography

Lewis Gideon Walker was born on 30 March 1850 in Coshocton county of Ohio. He was the son of Adam Fletcher Walker (1819-1859) and Mary Ann Kay (1820-1855), both from Coshocton county, Ohio. He had three older sisters; Caroline Elizabeth Bible (1842-1893), Malona Hefling (1844-1870) and Elmira Ella Kay Hetrick (1845-1921). His family was living in Keene township of Coshocton county, Ohio in 1850.^[1] His mother, Mary, died in 1855 when he was five years old, and his father died in 1859 when he was nine years old. It would be interesting to find out where he went to live and who raised him through his formative years and his young adulthood.

On 24 December 1868, he was married to Matilda Cooper in Coshocton county.^[2] She was the daughter of Cyrus Cooper (1822-1900) and Clarissa Jane Barnes (1825-1899), both of Holmes county, Ohio. They had seven children; Wilmer Russell (1869-1963),^[3] Cora Myrtle Church (1875-1957), Jasper (1879-1952),^[4] Harold Kay (1882-1957), Laker Leroy (1885-1976), Ava Dell Shaffer (1888-1915) and Ralph Cooper (1895-1971).

In 1870 and 1880 his occupation was blacksmith. His family was living in Hilliar township of Knox county, Ohio in 1900,^[5] 1910^[6] and 1920, listed as a gospel minister.^[7] In 1930, at age 80, he and Matilda were living in Centerburg and he was a clergyman in the Church of Christ.^[8]

On 27 April 1936, Matilda died in Centerburg, Ohio.^[9] Then on 13 August 1936, Lewis died at Mt. Vernon, Ohio.^[10] They were both laid to rest in the Centerburg Cemetery.^[11]
