Ernestown is not in Quebec. It is west of Kingston Ontario
posted by Phillip Mintz
Hello Phillip, It's my preference to use the historical name of a location that was used for the date in question. The Province of Ontario did not yet exist in 1765 and in fact the area was part of the "Province of Quebec" at that time.

The debate on what place names should be used for records is ongoing however most serious researchers seem to prefer to use historical names.

You're correct that Ernestown is currently part of Ontario. WikiTree prefers to utilize the historical place names in use at the time events occurred. From Oct 7, 1763, to Dec 26, 1791, Ontario didn't exist and the area that included Ernestown was in the Province of Quebec. From Dec 26, 1791, until Feb 10, 1841, the area was in Upper Canada and in 1841 the area became Canda West until Ontario was created on Jul 1, 1867. See the Provincial Canada section of the North American Place Names. From there you can access the spreadsheet that details the changes.

Perry-2537 and Perry-9891 appear to represent the same person because: Not only do the dates align, the parental and sibling information matches exactly with what I have on file for Perry-9891. I strongly believe this is the same person.
