William was born around 1735 in (most likely) Massachusetts to John Perry and (possibly) Sarah Day.
He was a loyalist during the Revolutionary War and served as a volunteer in the King's Loyal Americans in Capt. Jessup's Company from 20 Jul 1777 to 8 Sep 1777 when he was transferred to Capt. McAlpine's Company. He migrated to Canada after the surrender of Gen. John Burgoyne on 17 Oct 1777 in Saratoga, New York. He served in the military in Quebec, Canada in 1783. He received land as "provision" in Ontario, Canada.
