Richard James Marshall was born on 13 Mar 1882 in Guildford, Victoria, Australia, son of John Marshall and Clara Margaret (Bowden) Marshall (1856 - 1929). ^[1]

Richard married Betsy Florence Birrell (1883 - 1962) on 6 May 1908 in Dapto, New South Wales. ^[2]

Richard died on 2 May 1949 in Deniliquin, New South Wales aged 67.^[3] He is buried in Williamstown Cemetery, Williamstown, Victoria. ^[4]
