Biography

Pascal Despres was born on 4 Dec 1821 and baptized on 16 Jun 1822 in Cocagne, the son of Charles Despres and Jeanne Richard.^[1][2]

Pascal married widow Marie Gallant on 24 Nov 1851 in Cocagne.^[3][4] Witnesses were Francois Bourque and Aime Hebert.

In the 1861 census Pascal (age 36) lived in Dundas, New Brunswick with his wife Mary and stepdaughter Matilda.^[5]

Pascal married Isabelle Melanson, daughter of Joseph Melanson and Madeleine Richard, on 28 Jul 1862 in Cocagne.^[6]

In the 1871 census Paschal, age 49, was in Dundas, Kent, New Brunswick.^[7]

In the 1881 census Pascal, age 58, farmer, was in Dundas, Kent, New Brunswick.^[8]

He died on 15 Aug 1883 and was buried two days later in Cocagne.^[9] His age noted in the parish register was 62 years.

Research Notes

Pascal's 1862 marriage to Isabelle Melanson does not indicate that he was widowed, but this Pascal seems to be the only possible Pascal Despres who would have married Marie Gallant in 1851. He also married Isabelle shortly after his first wife Mary died. His age in the 1861 census with his wife Mary is only off by a few years. Fremmerlid-1 21:54, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
