Biography

Charles was born in 1846 to Charles Adams a publican and Mary Ann Pethen ^[3]. In 1851 the family were living in Sturminster Newton and his father is shown as a Baker on the census ^[4]. in 1861 he was working as a groom for the Bower family of Iwerne Courtney ^[5]. Charles married Lavinia Ralph ^[6] from a local farming family in 1866 and they had 6 children all daughters. Charles followed in the family business and became a publican from 1867 onwards being publican of the White Horse in Hinton St Mary ^{[7] [8]}. In 1901 Charles and Lavinia were living in Wembury in Devon ^[9], Charles working as a cattleman. In 1911 he was staying with his brother William in Poole ^[10]. Charles died in 1913 and was buried in Childe Okeford where his sister Elizabeth and nephew Sidney ran the Union Arms pub^[11].
