Charles "Charlie" was born about 1846. He was the son of Wesley Adams and Mary Dowdell. He passed away on 4 Sep 1876.

Charles is listed as being age 24 on the 1870 Census (21 Jul 1870) and lives with his mother, Mary (32?), and siblings John (19), Robert Norman (16), Lizzie (8) and Frank (6). There is another brother, Thomas, who is 2, and a domestic servant, Joe Brown (16), from Maryland. Charles' occupation is listed as a Gauger (gauged quantities of alcohol so that the correct amount of duty could be levied);

Mary Hess Adams remarried a James Renrick Cheney (1843–1932) in 1879. The 1880 Census shows Mary (28) and James (40) living on Magazine Street with three children: Lilly Adams (8), Joseph Adams (6) and Minnie Cheney (1 mo.);

Mary Hess Adams Cheney is buried in Eastern Cemetery. She lived at 3715 River Park Drive at the time of her death;
