These will be the first steps:

  1. Move the 'Edit notes' section contents to here with some trimming at the same time. These will be specific sufficient to the expected change.
  2. Remove most of the images and point to external sources for the material.
  3. Consider other Profiles that are similar that we can use somewhat like a template.

I have some time to work this. This thread relates to updates. Discussion of details under open research can be found at the prior G2G: Coordinating coming edits of the Thomas Gardner (Gardner-159) page

We know that there are multiple viewpoints to support and that these are the result of open areas where we need additional research. However, this type of problem has been resolved prior to now, hence we are looking for some example Profiles.

With respect to  #1 -- done, #2 -- in process, #3, Christopher Childs suggested the Profile of Richard Waterman (abt. 1605 - 1673)

--- Edit notes --

The main source, as appropriate, will be the material (published and web-based) of the Puritan Migration Project of NEHGS. There will be additional material from Gardner Research.

  • See our FAQ for what we know, meaning, of course, things that can be documented. List of 'what we know'
  • This line will point to other material that might be pertinent, starting with Gardner Research (see Sherborne focus), ... We have been in a 'hunt and gather' mode for some time as facilitated by the WWW. We have been publishing via The Gardner Annals. Submission of articles is encouraged.
  • The portal to our site is TGSoc.org. That site will be undergoing renovation, too. In part, it will support this Profile. One aspect will be bibliography related to Thomas and Margaret (printed and not) that, hopefully, will provide a total view of the efforts of a lot of people over the years.
  • Larger picture: Cape Ann crew, Hereditary Society Community. Plus, W.A. Reitwiesner as inspiration. There are many families and their work that are germane to this Profile. Example: R. W. Trask.
  • It might go without saying but won't. The work will follow the guidelines of WikiTree with respect to presentation and all other matters. Too, the Great Migration Project and its goals will be in constant focus. See discussion on potential use of End Notes.

--- Interim notes, pending changes ---

  • Sherborne records include lots of Thomas Gardners. Thomas could be any of those or from another place. As well, of late, we have been looking at the matter of two [https://thomasgardnerofsalem.blogspot.com/2019/06/two-thomas-gardners-in-salem.html Thomas Gardners] arriving. 'Origins' is very much an open area of research. Our opinion is that a coordinated, deep study will resolve a lot of this. Hence, we will include a point to research (and its related blog).
  • [https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Fryer-892#Footnotes Margaret's profile] will be updated with URLs for the full images.
  • Do we want those images taken from Dr. Frank's book? The URLs are referenced in text.
  •   ...
  • after some query and reading time, the structure for this Profile will be Biography (subsections), Research Notes (subsections, where controversies, etc. are handled), Sources, Acknowledgements. ... Start the restructure (done).
  • remove most of the images; the ones left ought to have some meaning
  • ...

In Feb of 2023, new information provided more evidence of Thomas and Margaret and their children, however it is from the other side of the waters. Not in New England.

See the G2G about searches on Sherbourne record that throw new light.

As said, Thomas Gardners, everywhere.
