Biography

Ancestry.com lists birth location as Hurricane Creek, Lauderdale, Mississippi.

Ancestry.com also lists different wife, Mathi Williams, with source of 1900 federal census, but this is almost certainly incorrect: the name that was read as "Mathi" is largely illegible, could definitely be Martha. Her year of birth on the census is totally illegible, but it says they had been married for 33 years, with 7 children, all living, that she was born in Alabama, her father in Georgia, and her mother in Alabama. 4 children are listed as living with them: Sam, Lula, Jane (or perhaps Lane), and Mabel. The 1870 census actually lists "Martha" as his wife, though lists her birthplace as Mississippi instead of Alabama like the 1900 census. The 1870 census says she was 25 at the time. The 1880 census shows her as "Martha A" and that a Puckett "brother-in-law" was living with them and this is the only source found suggesting a maiden name for Martha.
