Martha Williams was born on a Friday, 26 Sep 1738, to William Williams and Martha (Wheeler) Williams in Stonington, Connecticut Colony.^[1][2][3]

Baptism

Martha was baptized on 21 Jan 1739, in the North Stonington Congregational Church.^[4]

Research Note:

The church record on Ancestry has the year listed as 1738/39. Because the authors of History of Stonington and the Wheeler Family in America used the year 1738 for her birth, it is logical to assume that the year she was baptized was 1739.

Research Note:

The author of The Groton Avery Clan, Volume I has Russel Avery married to "Betsey Wheeler". Normally Betsey is the nickname for Elizabeth. History of Stonington and Wheeler History in America have Elizabeth married to Abel Hinckley. Hannah is listed in both as married to Russel Avery.^[1][2][5]

After further research it has been determined that Hannah did in fact marry Abel Hinckley, Jr and not Russel Avery, and that it is Elizabeth married Russel Avery. As noted in Wheeler-14204 Hannah's profile:

"It appears that Hannah and her sister Elizabeth aka "Betsey" by the Wheeler authors as to whom married whom.^[1][2]"

The difference in dates could be a transcription error OR the first date is the date the license was applied for and the second being the date of the actual marriage.

Death

Martha died 18 Jan 1788, and is buried in Paul Wheeler Cemetery #40, in Stonington, New London, Connecticut.^[1][2][6]
