Biography

Avarilla was born in February 1838 in Monroe County, Tennessee. She is the daughter of Bill Williams and Trephenia Millsaps. She died of Pellagra on 24 December 1913 in Swain County, North Carolina^[1] and is buried in Bryson City Cemetery, Bryson City, Swain County.^[2]

In 1860 Avarilla and Wesley are living in Cheoah, Cherokee County, North Carolina. In their household are children: Louisa Carringer, born 1855, and Avaline Carringer, born 1857; both children born in Cherokee County, North Carolina.^[3]

The family moved to Monroe County, Tennessee for a few years. Children John Brownlow and Rebecca Carringer were born in Tennessee in 1865 and 1867. By 1869 they were back in Cheoah Township, Cherokee County, North Carolina. Wesley and Avarilla are listed on the 1870 census on a farm in Cherokee County. They have land valued at $300 and personal property worth $500. In the household are children:

Research Notes

Daniel Wesley Carringer enlisted in 1862 as a Private in the Confederate Army in Company F, Walker's Battalion, Thomas' Legion of Indians and Highlanders, or the 69th North Carolina Regiment.

On 16 August 1890 his widow Avarilla (Williams) Wilson applied for a pension based on this service for herself and minor son S A Carringer.^[6]
