Matilda Williams is the fifth listed child of Eleazer Williams and Mary Billings of Stonington, Connecticut. Note that her birth date of Jan 29, 1897 as published by Wheeler (1900) in his "History of Stonington" is probably an error in view of the apparent gestational conflict vs. her next younger sibling, Frank Williams, with birth date March 4, 1797; hence the birth year of Matilda is herein estimated as 1795, the next most plausible "time slot" among her eleven siblings. This premise is supported by the actuarial dates appearing in her grave memorial, albeit itself, unsourced.
She married first, in 1814 James M. Avery (1794 - 1819, son of Caleb and Mary (Avery) Avery); two children are listed from this union:
Matilda (Williams) Avery is purported to have married second, in 1820, Rev. Ira Rogers Steward (-1867); note that the previous surname, Stewart, probably was incorrect. The duration of this union is uncertain.
Matilda (Williams) (Avery) Steward died 1 Apr 1872 Her grave is in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London, New London County, Connecticut, USA [1].
