Biography

I am presently intensively researching all original documents for ALL WILLIAMSES living in Prince George County, VA; Brunswick County, VA; Richmond County, VA; etc. I am adding any and all records I find for the families of Roger Williams and his wife, Ann Williams (nee Williams) whose parents were "JOHN WILLIAMS and JANE," -- SEE BELOW. Parts of Brunswick County, VA were created from PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, VA, where many Williamses had been living prior to the creation of Brunswick County.

1721 - 1722: Per the catalog records of Prince George County, Virginia -- James Williams received a land survey on the SOUTH SIDE OF THE NOTTAWAY RIVER on 1 Nov 1723 in Prince George County, VA. In addition, a George Williams received a land grant on both sides of STURGEON RUN on 7 Nov 1722. Many other Williamses were living in Prince George County at that time, whom I am currently researching and believe may be related. 1743: Per the Brunswick County, VA catalog records -- On 2 Feb 1743, HENRY WILLIAMS, who appears to be the son of JOHN WILLIAMS, purchased property in Brunswick County, VA located on STURGEON CREEK. Witnesses: Lewis Parham and John Jones. (Source: Brunswick County, VA Deed Records, Vol. 2 1740-1743, Image 216 of 638 at FamilySearch.org) (my note: many other sources found supporting this assumption, too numerous to list here.)

1746: Sale of property on 2 Oct 1746 by HUGH WILLIAMS and ELIZABETH his wife of Saint Andrews Parish in the County of Brunswick to Austin Hightower, land included in a patent granted to HUGH WILLIAMS bearing date the 20th of September 1745. (Source: Brunswick County, VA Deed Records, Vol. 3 1744-1749, Image 434 of 638 at FamilySearch.org)

1747: Per the Brunswick County, VA catalog records -- On 5 Nov 1747 JOHN WILLIAMS of the Parish of Northfarnham and County of Richmond and HUGH WILLIAMS of the Parish of Saint Andrew and County of Brunswick jointly purchased property from John Davis in the Parish of Saint Andrew and County of Brunswick, on the SOUTH SIDE OF THE NOTTAWAY RIVER. Witnesses: Henry Jones, Lewelling Jones, and Samuel Senter. (source: Brunswick County, VA Deed Records, Vol. 3, 1744-1749, Image 500 of 638 at FamilySearch.org)

1751: Will of JOHN WILLIAMS, SENIOR: JOHN WILLIAMS of the Parish of Northfarnham in Richmond County . . . . . . I give [my son] HENRY WILLIAMS all the land between GRIFFIN DOBYNS LINE and HIGH FIELD SWAMP to him and his son JOHN forever, and forty acres of land adjoining to the plantation running down the swamp from the HEAD LINE . . . . . . I give to MY SON JOHN WILLIAMS all the land from BATES'S SPRING BRANCH to WILLIAM DOWS LINE running from the head of the branch a straight line to a corner tree of the land that HENRY WILLIAMS SOLD TO EDWARD MORRIS . . . . . . I give to MY SON SAMUEL WILLIAMS the land and plantation that now I live on . . . . . . I give unto my son THOMAS WILLIAMS all my land on NOTTAWAY RIVER BELOW ROCKEY RUN . . . I give unto my son LUKE WILLIAMS my plantation on NOTTAWAY RIVER and all the land that I possess there above ROCKY RUN . . . . . . . daughter BETTY LYELL . . . granddaughter Ann Lyell . . . daughter SARAH LAWSON . . . WINIFRED JONES my granddaughter . . . MY SON HUGH WILLIAMS . . . my Will and desire is that the rest of my estate be equally divided between my children HUGH EXCEPTED AND TO HAVE NO PART OF THAT . . . . . . SON IN LAW ROGER WILLIAMS . . . . . . SON IN LAW EDWARD JONES . . . . . . signed JOHN WILLIAMS, Senior witnesses: Epapheoditious Sydnor, Thomas Tune, Mary Sydnor At a court held for Richmond County the first day of April 1751 This Will was presented in Court by JANE WILLIAMS the EXECUTIRIX THEREIN NAMED . . . (Source: Richmond County, VA Wills & Inventories, vol. 5 1725-1753, Image 355 of 687 at FamilySearch.org)

My note regarding the above WILL OF JOHN WILLIAMS above -- the land that John Williams left to his sons THOMAS and LUKE on the NOTTAWAY RIVER below Rockey Run is the same land that he jointly purchased with his son HUGH WILLIAMS in Brunswick County, VA in 1747, above -- that is why Hugh was left nothing substantial in the WILL, he had already received half of the land that he and his father purchased in Brunswick several years prior to his father's death.

1753: 20 Oct 1753 -- LUKE WILLIAMS of the Parish of Northfarnham and County of Richmond, sale of property to HENRY WILLIAMS of the Parish and County aforesaid . . . property being in the County of Brunswick in the Parish of Saint Andrews lying on the NOTTAWAY RIVER, which JOHN WILLIAMS, THE FATHER OF HENRY WILLIAMS and LUKE WILLIAMS purchased of John Davis. One of the witnesses was HUGH WILLIAMS, their brother. (Source: Brunswick County, VA Deed Records, Vol. 4 1746-1750, Vol. 5 1751-1755, Image 491 of 631 at FamilySearch.org)

1753: 22 Oct 1753 -- THOMAS WILLIAMS of the Parish of Northfarnham, County of Richmond, sale of property LYING ON THE NOTTAWAY RIVER, which JOHN WILLIAMS, THE FATHER OF THE AFORESAID THOMAS WILLIAMS, purchased of John Davis, bounding on . . .
