I started to do my family history to try and solve some unknowns on my fathers line. There the fun started. Needless to say that after 20 years those unknowns still exist.
Biggest skeleton is the fact that my dads supposed father actually died 6 years before dad was born, so brick wall there stays solid and unbreakable.
Have spent lots of time on my mums side of the family, and have built quite a tree, just need lots of time to get it transcribed. Not always been easy as on both her maternal and paternal line the surname Shepherd, Shephard appears, one lot from Cumbria and the Lake District and the other from Derbyshire and Yorkshire. Not helped by recorders of the past constantly changing the spelling.
Although proud to be a Yorkshireman I find that mums family comes from all points North South East and West.
Main lines of enquiry are
GRAY - in Yorkshire, especially Barnsley, Hoyland, Elscecar
SWIFT - Yorkshire (Barnsley, Hoyland, Elscecar), Walsall, \west Midlands
SHEPHARD - Yorkshire (Barnsley, Hoyland, Elscecar, Rotherham), North Derbyshire
SHEPHERD - Cumbria, Westmoreland, Lancashire
ORWIN - North Notts, North Derbyshire

Thank you for approving the merges that I proposed yesterday. Ann Tippett has approved them too, so they can be merged. Unfortunately I cannot merge them as I am not on either your trusted lists and the security level on the profiles is set at private. To complete the merge, either you or Ann would need to do it and will need to be on each others trusted list. Alternately I could do it for you, but you would both need to add me to your trusted list or set the security levels to open on a temporary basis and change them back after the merge is completed. I will contact Ann and tell her this. Let me know how you would like to proceed, Joan
I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Do you have any questions I can answer?

You may not remember me, but we met some years ago to discuss our shared Shephard line. Welcome to Wikitree. I have proposed some merges of the profiles that you have created, because some of the people you have put on Wikitree are already there. You need to approve the merges so that we can ensure that there is only one profile for each person. The other profile manager needs to approve the merge too, If they do no do that we will have to wait for a month before we can complete the merges and then you will share management of the profiles. The Shephard line is already on Wikitree. Please do not put them on again, or we will have to do more merging. You are welcome to work on the ones that are already there if you have more information to add. I manage most of the profiles.
You've been a member for about a week so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions? Most of us have questions after all that information!

P. S. I see that you are following a number of surname tags, including Swift, Webster, and Orwin. By clicking on the tags you follow, you can see which other members share your interests. You may find a long-lost cousin!
