Biography

George Winn Vicory was born on February 22, 1906, in Mississippi. He was the son of Robert Vicory and Sadie Tennison. He married Lura Mae Morgan about 1925 in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi. They had two children during their marriage. He died on December 27, 1990, in Jackson, at the age of 84, and was buried there.

George W. Vicory, 84, of 144 Dexter Drive, a self-employed sign painter, died of heart failure Thursday at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home with burial in Cedarlawn Cemetery with masonic rites. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Vicory, a Memphis native, was a resident of Jackson for 65 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner of Wahabi Temple. He was a member of the Floor team for 42 years, founder of the Wahabi Clown Unit, and a member of the Jackson Amateur Radio Club for 25 years.

Survivors include wife, Lura; daughter, Maxine Garrett of Jackson; sister, Elizabeth Abbie Bufkin of Jackson; half-brother, C.J. "Tony" Staples of Jackson; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
