In addition to the sources cited above, the Rowley Vital Records also shows her burial date as 24 10m 1657 (24 Dec 1657). See https://books.google.com/books?id=BJcBAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA514

Being that this profile is "Special", "Protected", I would think that Attention would be payed to the following ! Could someone Please Edit the following location as it is presently entered with Typos: married 1631 in Rowley/roxbury, [should be Roxbury] Essex/norfolk, [should be Norfolk] MA [should be Massachusetts] and is it proper to be entering two locations separated by / ?

The profile is PPPd by the Puritan Great Migration to protect the relationships (or lack of them.) It's not special other ways.

We have only a few members who regularly are active in updating profiles. Our project guidance says others (you) may "make minor edits and corrections on the profile directly;" so please feel free to make these minor edits, Sandie. Thank you.

[Edited for clarity re: location name at that time.]

Please note: Torrey's "New England Marriages", as accessed via NEHGS, shows the marriage at Rowley, Essex, in 1629 (NEHGS subscribers, see https://www.americanancestors.org/DB1568/i/21175/1261/426901338). But Rowley was not settled --according to the town's own history (townofrowley.net) until _1639_.

At that time, it "included portions of modern-day Byfield, Groveland, Georgetown, and Haverhill".

Without knowing exactly where the marriage took place among the four locations named above, it becomes rather difficult to find the correct placename at the time, and honor WikiTree's official preference for using "their terms, not ours".

My suggestion is that we use "Rowley" as the best available placeholder. If in future anyone is able to narrow down the exact location and specify which village actually hosted the event, the place name can be changed. Any objections?

I did a quick check in the Great Migration Directory - he came by 1637 - so I think England is the correct location for the first marriage. NEHGR 147:371-76: [1], says his first son was born in England about 1630.

Good catch. I see that that article also shows son Thomas (b. say 1633; we show 1635) born on that side of the Pond.

Looks as though we have duplicate sons John -- John and John -- that need to be merged.

I checked all 8 sources given by Torrey (and the NEHGR article). None of them state where John Remington and Elizabeth were married, other than to say England. They were not known to have been married in Roxbury, Norfolk County, or Rowley, Essex County, Massachusetts. Since their older children were born well before there were any records in New England, I am changing their marriage place to simply England.

Dianne, the Family Data Collection is a collection of family trees and much of the information should be considered unreliable. While they may be useful in finding clues about where to search, they should not be added as good sources.
posted by John Beardsley
I disagree, in that you should not be taking it upon yourself to Declare "Unreliable" ! Family Data Collection is a good "Secondary Source", meaning that some of those profiles Do Have Vital Sources attached, While some do not ! So Secondary Source should be used when adding them to WikiTree Profiles

Sandie, please see the reliable/unreliable sources for profiles in the Puritan Great Migration sources. here: [1]

one of the unreliable ones is Pedigree Resource Files on familysearch.org or any other user contributed family trees. John Beardsley is correct.

Family Data Collection-Births indicate John Remington father as Richard and his mother as Elizabeth Hutton born in 1600 at Lockington, Yorkshire, England. Source: Edmund West, comp. Family Data Collection-Births Provo UT USA

John's second wife is indicated as Rhoda Gore.

I believe this to be my 8th great grandmother, however, I have dna tested and this is showing no know carriers of her dna. So what does that mean? How can we confirm?

I thought her maiden name to be Knight however now I can not locate the record that indicated that. Suggestions? Dianne Perry 8th grand daughter of John Remington.

A middle name Francis was recently added without source. What's the source for this? Middle names were not used by the British during this era.

Larry (and Roberta), we seek more original records than other online trees (Heritage and Geni). If those sites cite something more specific, that would be helpful to know. Thanks.

The following information was received from Roberta [email address removed] :

Hello- I have been researching Elizabeth Remington for several days and found that she maybe a Hutton or have some variation of that name . I am searched on Heritage and Geni . Found some interesting information, I know it goes quite a ways back but maybe you can help. This Remington landed in Mass with John during the Puritan Migration. I think. She is a distant cousin.

You show her born in 1606 in Massachusetts?! Please advise source(s) for her maiden name.
