Biography

Phillip was born on 28 April 1839 Mt Thorley homestead. He was the son of Phillip Thorley and Mary Griffiths. He passed away in 6 January 1932.

PHILIP THORLEY THE death occurred yesterday of Mr. Philip Thomas Thorley, a well-known resident of Maitland and Singleton districts. He had attained the age of 97 years, and preserved all his facul ties to the last. The late Mr. Thorley, whose father settled at Mount Thorley early in last century, was the last of a large family, and had followed farming pursuits. In Singleton and Maitland the whole of his long life. He was twice married, and his sec ond wife predeceased him many years ago. Nine of his eleven children are still living, and two, Mr. Walter Thor ley (Katoomba), and Mrs. Hobden (Ashfield) have since passed away. The surviving children are Mrs. W. Lambley (Tarro), Mrs. J. Smith (Singleton), Mrs. L. Phillips (Ash field), Mrs. W. Brown (Ashfield), Mr. Wellington Thorley (Lambton), Mrs. Reg. Barbour (Melbourne), Mr. George Thorley (Maitland), Mr, John Thorley (Coogee), and Mrs. Tom Christian (Luskuntyre). There are many grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. The funeral will take place at 10 o'clock to-morrow morning, the inter ment being in the East Maitland ceme tery.
