Philip Tabor migrated to New England during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640). (See Great Migration Begins, by R. C. Anderson, Vol. 3, p. 1791) Join: Puritan Great Migration Project Discuss: pgm
Some believe he was the son of Sir John Tabor and Elizabeth Gery or Gray. But Anderson's Great Migration series does not identify origins. Additionally, he did not have a daughter named Esther so she is being disconnected.Esther (Taber) Mayhew
There are many internet errors due to the Taber Genealogy Book by George L. Randall... take care when reviewing that book.[1]
The spelling in these many deeds varies for many an individual.... Philip, Phillip, Tabor, Taber may occur in one deed; but Tabor was commonly used in Rhode Island, Taber in New Bedford, Ct. The Tabers of New Bedford were predominately "Friends", those of Rhode Id. commonly Baptists and Congregationalists, we regret that their available records are less complete than those of the Quakers.[2]
Philip Tabor (aka Taber), origins unknown, born about 1605 based on his claim in a deposition that he was 64 in 1669, emigrated by 1633, settling initially in Watertown (where he was admitted to the church before 14 May 1634 when made freeman), removed to Yarmouth in 1638, then Martha's Vineyard, then New London, then Portsmouth in 1656, and finally Providence, Rhode Island.
Note: claims that he was in Massachusetts by 1630 are not supported by any evidence.
He was a sawyer and carpenter. He also served as Deputy to Plymouth General Court for Yarmouth 5 June 1639 and 2 June 1640. He was Portsmouth commissioner to the General Court in 1660, 1663. He held several other positions, and was later Providence commissioner to General Court in 1661.
He married first by 21 Dec 1639 Lydia Masters, daughter of John Masters.
21 Dec 1639 is when Lydia's father died; his will names her Taber so she was married by this time.
He married second by 1669 Jane ____ who survived him.
She was not Jane Latham sister of Cary Latham.
He died after 24 Feb 1671/2 and before 27 Apr 1682 when his wife was called widow.
Many sources claim he died in Tiverton, but he apparently died before Tiverton was settled. (Some descendants did reside there.)
Death: 11 Dec 1672, Tiverton, Newport, Rhode Island[10]

Descendant Daniel P Taber is in my Y-DNA line Y37 2 steps genetic distance meaning his ancestor Phillip Taber is descended from a common paternal ancestor.
Daughter Esther is named in the Taber Genealogy...Anderson addresses this in the Great Migration and says there is no evidence of a daughter Esther, or any evidence that there was a Mayhew who married an Esther. Do we disconnect and add the Disproven Existence template?
Since a bunch of Tabor family geneologists probably view this page, as it's date is far back, I'm wondering if anybody on this page could place these people:
which named them as "Miss Maggie HULL of Woodstock and Evlin TABOR, a former resident of Woodstock (NB, Canada), now living in Lynn, Mass."
(It was also written in Oct 1896). I don't know how they'd connect, but they may be somebody's missing link.
Hello fellow Taber genealogists- does a family tree chart exist for this family?? I am totally confused with the relationships of this family. There appear to be so many marriages within the family. If there is no chart, I will create my own. Thank you for any help.
