Biography

Frederick Stuart was born on 5 November 1885. He was the son of William Stuart and Isabella Gibson.

In the 1891 Scotland Census, Frederick Stuart (aged 5 and a scholar) was recorded living with his father William Stuart (50, his mother Isabella Stuart (40) and his brother James A M Stuart (2) at High Street (West Side), Glenbervie, Kincardine[1].

He emigrated from Scotland to Canada with his parents. His father died in 1910.

Fred married Alice Maude Waller (the daughter of Samuel William Waller and Eliza Maria Hughes) on 21 June 1912. They had at least five children:

  1. Phyllis Isabella Stuart (b. 17 Apr 1913, d. 25 Nov 1931)
  2. Kathleen Alice Stuart (b. 26 Jun 1915, m. 1 Jun 1946 Henry Lennox, d. 15 Nov 2010)
  3. Frederick Waller Stuart (b. 6 Jan 1917, d. 20 Sep 1955)
  4. Helen Elizabeth Stuart (b. 22 Aug 1918, m. 1943 Sidney K Smith)
  5. Dorothy Iris Stuart (b. abt. 1928)

In the 1916 Canada Census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, Fred Stuart (aged 30) was recorded living with his wife Alice Stuart (24) and their two young children Phyllis Stuart (3) and Kathleen Stuart (11 months) at Rozilee, North Battleford, Saskatchewan. Also in the household was his mother Isabella Stuart (67) and 20 year old "help" William Cooke[2].

Sadly his brother Private James Stuart died on 5 April 1917 whilst fighting in the 1st World War, aged 28.

Frederick Stuart passed away on 1 January 1935 and was buried at Wild Rose North Cemetery, Holbein, North Battleford Census Division, Saskatchewan, Canada[3].
