Paul was born in 1891. He was the son of Villeroy Smith and Edith Brewster. He passed away in 1969.

Paul married Marian L. Patterson 5 December 1918 in Washington DC.[1] Paul and Marian were divorced about 1946, and on 6 March 1948 Paul married Agnes Proctor Jordan in Montgomery, Alabama.[2]

After his studies at Syracuse University Paul took a teaching position in the Philippines. After returning to the U.S., he was employed as Research Chemist with the Hooker Electro-Chemical Company, Niagara Falls, N.Y. His son David was assigned as 1st Lt. CWS, U. S. Army, to the same company in 1941. In 1918 he was commissioned in the newly-formed U.S. Army Chemical Warfare Service, created in response to the threat presented by Germany in its use of poison gas prior to America's entry into WWI. Paul remained in the Regular Army after that war, and he served as Chemical Officer during WWII on the staff of General Joseph "Vinegar Joe" Stillwell in his China/India/Burma Command. Paul retired in 1950 from his command of a small Army detachment in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. His second marriage took place in 1948, Civil 1952.
(Obituary, Army-Navy Journal, March 17, 1969): "SMITH, PAUL REVERE, COL. U.S. ARMY RETIRED. On Sunday, March 16, 1969 at the Fairfax Hospital, COL. PAUL REVERE SMITH of 8941 Littleton Street, Fairfax, Va. Husband of Agnes P. Smith [and formerly husband of the late Marian Lee Patterson Smith]; father of Mrs. Betty Brewster [Smith] Abramson, [step-daughter] Mrs. Nancy Pittman, Lt. Col. David Patterson Smith (retired), Arthur G. Smith and Quentin C. Smith; brother of Mrs. Jean S. Cosentino, Harold A. and Dale Smith. He also is survived by eight grandchildren [and step-grandchildren.] Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at Fort Myer Chapel. Interment Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements by The Everly Funeral Home, 10565 Main St., Fairfax, Va."
