Salvatore Riina is born around 1856 in Corleone, the son of Francesco Riina and Ninfa Cicirello.
Salvatore marries Giuseppa de Luca, daughter of Biagio de Luca and Francesca Paola Lavenuta, on 4 November 1882 in the town hall[1] and 5 November 1882 in the church.[2]
Salvatore and Giuseppa have at least eight children: Francesco (1884), three sons named Giovanni (1885, 1901, and 1903), two sons named Biagio (1888 and 1893), Francesca Paola (1896), and Ninfa (1898).
Francesco, named after his paternal grandfather, is baptized 1 January 1884.[3]
The first son named Giovanni is baptized 22 March 1885.[4] He is presumed to have died before 1901, when his brother is given this name.
The first son named Biagio, after his maternal grandfather, is baptized 2 January 1888.[5] He is presumed to have died before his brother of the same name is born in 1893.
Salvatore, age 37 (b. 1856), contadino, reports the birth of his son, Biagio Riina, on 20 May 1893 in his home at 12 via Vicolo Pennino, to his wife, Giuseppa de Luca.[6] He is baptized the next day.[7]
The second son named Giovanni is baptized 13 October 1901.[10] He is presumed to have died in infancy.
The third and surviving son named Giovanni is born 23 February 1903 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Francesco Paolo Sciortino and Marianna Provenzano, a married couple.[11]
Frances Reina, age 16 (b. 1896), born in Italy, daughter of Salvatore Reina and Giuseppa De Luca (“Grosseppa Deluca”), marries Tom Patella, age 22 (b. 1890), born in Italy, son of Leoluca Patella and “Leoluchkino Canole” (Leoluchina Canali), on 21 April 1912 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California.[12]
Giovanni marries Maria Concetta Rizzo on 9 October 1927.
