Biography
Melver Columbus Redman was born in 1801, son of John Redman (1780–1837) and Jane Williams (1780–>1860). Melver died in 1848, aged 46.
Based on inventory after Melver's death, it's possible he was a blacksmith. Melver was embattled with his brothers' regarding his father's estate, eventually everything would be turned over to his brother. In 1842, he went to bankruptcy court and by 1848 he was selling his land to pay taxes.
In 1844, he was involved in the planning of a brand new county, Williams County, formed from the Northern part of Iredell County and parts of Wilkes and Surry.
By late 1840's, his death prompted his wife to marry his cousin, Absalom Redman (around 1849) with 4 small children.

Allen?; Did he waste the same or might he have reduced into (?) assets of the Estate of Melver Redman, dec. who was the Executor of the said John Redman, sufficient to pay said debts?" A jury was sworn in and empaneled to try the merits of the case.
The said suit was continued until Spring Term 1850. Hon. John M Dick was judge when following additional pleas were entered "The life Estate of 2/3's of the *ary Interest was sold by the sheriff on Executions at the instances of condition against the devisees for the debts of the devisees and 1/3 of the re*ary Interest was sold by Devisee and plaintiff devisees as to the last plea .
