Biography

William was born about 1849 to William Russell Rawlings and Jennifer Rowe. He was the eldest son of Appo Hocton (by adoption).

He became known as William Rawlings Hocton after his mother's marriage to Appo Hocton. Appo named him in his will as "my son William Rowland Hocton" HOCTON William Rowling, Dictionary of New Zealand Biography (Vols 1 & 2), V1, INDEX

Birth

On 11 December 1849 an unnamed child was registered as born to Jennifer and William Rowling. ^[1]

Marriage

On 5 May 1880 Emily Sophia Burnett and William Rowlings Hocton were married. ^[2]

Children

Children born to Emily Sophia and William Rowling Hocton On 8 February 1881 Roseana Agnes Hocton was born to Emily Sophia and William Rowling Hocton. ^[3]

Note that in 1901, their daughter Roseana married Herbert James Winter. ^[4]

Death

On 31 January 1919 William Rowling Hocton passed away, aged 69 ^[5]
