About the Project

The Edwards Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Edwards name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Edwards name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual team studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Edwards'), by time period (18th Century Edwards'), or by topic (Edwards DNA, Edwards Occupations, Edwards Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

My mother was Wahnieta Edwards 1938-2012 her father was John McCurdy Edwards 1915-1955. His father was Thomas Lewis Edwards 1885-1928. All were born in Eastern Ontario. Thomas' father was Frederick Lewis Edwards 1826-1895, he was born in Framlingham, Suffolk, England, and died in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. His father was Frederick Edwards 1793-1877, born in Framlingham, Suffolk, England; his father was George Edwards 1753-1836 of Dennington, Suffolk, England. George's father was John Edwards 1714-179 born in Kenton, Suffolk, England. John was named after his father who was born in 1692 and died in 1748. He was named after his father born in 1654 and died in 1729. My information ends with his father Rubin Edwards born in 1605 in Suffolk, he married Ann. This is my dead end. So, my question is, does anyone know this family line? I was told they held a few major properties. But where did this line come from? Are they of Welsh descent?

Hello fellow Edwards Researchers,

Roxie Edwards Merritt Wheatley was my dear grandmother. She was born in 1901 and died 1989. Her father was Wellington Edwards of Bond County, Illinois. I have information on that branch of my family and will be thrilled to share. Eileen
