Biography

Nancy Paxton was born about 1736 in Somerset County, New Jersey, the third of six known children and the second of three daughters of Reuben Paxson and Alice Simcock.
Alternate birth place: Cumberland (later Fayette) County, Pennsylvania.
In about 1755, when she was still in her teens, she married Zackquill Morgan in Frederick County, Virginia. She bore him four children, all daughters:
  1. Margaret Morgan Springer
  2. Nancy Ann Morgan Pierpont
  3. Temperance Morgan Cochran
  4. Catherine Morgan Scott
In 1763, when she was still in her twenties, Nancy died in Frederick County, of unknown causes, but probably from complications of childbirth.
Nancy Paxton was born about 1736 in New Jersey (probably Somerset County), and by 1744 her father Reuben began having considerable business dealings in Frederick (later Berkeley) County, (West) Virginia, where his wife's great uncle (who had died) owned land. Reuben Paxson/Paxton was listed with 400 acres at Tablers Station in the Fairfax survey of 06 May 1751. He apparently moved at least some of his family there from New Jersey, and Nancy was married about 1755 to Col. Zackquill Morgan in Frederick County, Virginia (now Berkeley County, West Virginia). After bearing four daughters, she died there about 1763. Those children were Margaret (md. William Springer), Nancy Ann (md. John Pierpoint), Temperance (md. John Cochran), and Catherine (md. Jacob Scott).

New Notes

Nancy Paxton is sometimes said to be a daughter of Edward Paxton and Margaret Collins, but there does not seem to be a shred of evidence that they even existed (other than the 1969 book "Now and Long Ago"; which actually had Nancy as their granddaughter, not daughter; see Note 7 below). And even if they did exist, they were no where close to the Morgans (not even in the same state), so there is no reason to believe that they were her grandparents, parents, or any other relationship.

On the other hand, there is a considerable amount of evidence that Reuben Paxson/Paxton is her father, living at Tablers Station, only 4 or 5 miles from the Morgan Settlement (near Bunker Hill). Furthermore, Reuben Paxton had a relationship (marriage?) with Zackquill Morgan's sister (Ann Morgan). This evidence has been collected by Dianna Privette, and can be found here: http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/thomas/18112/

We have some of the data in your post, but with "about" for the date and only several possibilities for the marriage place, as well as for Nancy's birthplace. Where did you find the marriage data? We have 1755, Rockbridge Co, VA from one source, and 1759, Berkley Co, VA from another, neither one documented. We have 1756? and 1759? for Nancy Ann's birthdate. Here is some of what we've found: 1. Paxton-686 and Paxton-123 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same husband.

This profile has been flagged with the following error: "Local file reference" This means that it contains references to files on a local computer. These files are not visible to anyone on internet.

An easy fix for this is to remove the reference to local file(s) and try to upload the picture(s) to WikiTree.

Thank you in advance.

Edward Paxton (d. ca. 1716) cannot be father of Nancy, because he died long before she was born.

Margaret Collins seems to be okay, but must find a younger Edward Paxton for her husband.

I thank you for bringing this to my attention. What I gather from doing a little more research is her b was 1735 and m. Zackquill Morgan Sr in1759. Somehow I mistakenly put her marriage date as her birthdate. Her parents are Edward Paxton and Margaret Collins

I am a newbie and am appriciative of any help I get.

Paxton-585 and Paxton-123 appear to represent the same person because: Married to same person. She was married in 1759, so could hardly have been born then. Zackquill remarried in 1765 so she would have had to died before that date.
