Biography

Luella Blanche Owen was born in 1867 to Sheldon D. Owen and Mary (Unknown) Owen in Sandy Lake Boro, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. She was living in Sandy Lake Boro with her parents in the 1870 United States Census. The family moved to Allegheny City, Pennsylvania sometime between 1870 and 1880.

She married Robert B. Lea on 24 October 1888 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Together they had eight children: Mary Lea, Jane Lea, Sheldon Lea, Francis Lea, Bradley Lea, Blanche O. Lea, William Stewart Lea and Marian Lea.

In 1900 Robert and Blanche were living at 1306 (unreadable) in Allegheny City. Also that year they bought interest in the house Robert's parents had owned on 1410 Pennsylvania Avenue, Allegheny City from parents' heirs. The couple updated their new home adding a three story addition to complement the original Gothic Revival structure. They sold the home in 1905. The family was living at 1328 Locust Street, Pittsburgh at the time of the 1910 United States Census.

Blanche was a widow living with her son, William, in South Bend, Indiana at the time of the 1930 United States Census. She was still living in South Bend in the 1940 Census.

Blanche Owen Lea passed away in 1948. She is interred at Highland Cemetery in South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana.
