Biography

Antonio Oliveri is born and baptized on 29 October 1804 in Corleone. He is the first born son of Giuseppe Oliveri and Mattea Frija, named after his paternal grandfather, as is traditional. His godparents are Giuseppe and Marianna Marsala, a married couple.

In 1812 Antonio, 9 (b. 1803), lives with his parents and younger brother in Lavinare (untranslatable), near the strada Maestra.

Children with Giuseppa lo Bello

Antonio married Giuseppa lo Bello on 25 April 1830. His father has died by this time, and his mother is still living, though in this record she is called "Maria."

Antonio and Giuseppa have at least eight children together: Mattea (1831), Ninfa (1833), Lucia (1835), Maria Antonia (1836), Giuseppe (1838), Biagio (1841), Calogera (1843), Calogero (1844), Rosalia (1846), and Angela (1850).

Mattea is born 7 March 1831 in her parents' home in strada della figurella, Corleone. Antonio, age 24 (b. 1807), is a bordonaro (mule driver) and Giuseppa is age 20 (b. 1811).

Ninfa is born and baptized on 14 February 1833. Ninfa is named after her maternal grandmother. Her godparents are Leoluca and Rosalia lo Bello, a married couple.

In the 1834 Church census, Antonio, reportedly 26 (b. 1804---he is 30), his wife Giuseppa, 25 (b. 1809), and their children Mattea, 4 (b. 1831), and Ninfa, 1 (b. 1833) live on the strada di Favaloro (which is now called via Ostieri to the west of via Candelora, and via Mancaluso to the east). Two houses away on the Strada Grande (now called via Lombardia) are the family of Maestro Carmelo lo Cascio.

Ninfa dies on 28 September 1834 at a year and a half of age.

Lucia is born and baptized on 3 March 1835. Her godparents are Giuseppe and Lucia Jannazzo, brother and sister.

Maria Antonia is born and baptized on 23 October 1836. Her godparents are Andrea and Anna Streva, a married couple.

Lucia dies at two years of age (b. 1835) on 2 August 1837, during the first recorded cholera outbreak in western Europe, a plague that sweeps Sicily and sparks a revolt against the Bourbons.

Pietro, Antonio's brother, marries Antonio's wife's sister, Francesca on February 25, 1838.

Giuseppe is born and baptized on 14 November 1838. His godparents are Calogero and Caterina Marino, a married couple.

Biagio is born 30 May 1841 and baptized the next day, named after his maternal grandmother. His godparents are Giuseppe Trumbadore and Gaetana lo Giudice, a married couple.

Calogera is born and baptized on 26 February 1843. Her godparents are Vincenzo Governali and Filippa Binenti. Calogera dies on 31 August 1843 at six months of age.

Calogero is born and baptized on 21 June 1844. His godparents are his paternal uncle Pietro Oliveri and maternal aunt Francesca lo Bello, a married couple.

Calogero dies on 16 June 1845 at a year of age.

Rosalia is born 11 July 1846 and baptized the next day. Her godparents are Salvatore di Palermo and Calogera Streva, a married couple.

Angela is born and baptized on 11 March 1850. Her godparents are Domenico Liggio and Margherita Moscato, a married couple.

Angela dies on 14 March 1852 at two years of age.
