René Naud or No(st) was born 10 Jun 1732 at Deschambault, the son of René Naud and Marie Catherine Abel Benoit. [1] [2]
At age 21, René married Véronique Mathieu, then 16, on 20 Aug 1753 at Deschambault. [1] [2]
Beginning the following year (1754), René and Véronique and soon their young family lived through the French and Indian War, which was the North American theatre of Europe's Seven Years' War among France, Great Britain and their conflicting allies - but referred to in Québec as La Guerre de la Conquête - following which their homeland was ceded to Great Britain. [3] [4]
Véronique and René had fifteen children together from 1755 through 1778, although as was not uncommon at the time, a number of children died shortly after birth or within a couple of years. Still at least eight children grew and went on to marry, seven of them girls and one boy. [2] [5]
René suffered the loss of his wife in 1794, but lived to be 68, passing away at Saint-Ours on 7 May 1801. He was survived by numerous childen and grandchildren. [1] [2] [5]
