Deschambault is on the Saint-Lawrence not far upstream of the city of Québec - and Catherine was born just a year before the territory would be ceded by France to Great Britain in connection with the conclusion of the French & Indian War, known in Québec as La Guerre de la Conquête.
[3][4]
At age 21, Catherine married Antoine Benoit, also 21 years old, on 29 Sep 1783 at Saint-Ours. The Province of Quebec had just become part of the newly renamed British North America after further war had led to Britain's loss of its American colonies to the South.
[1][2][5][6]
Catherine and Antoine had six children together from 1784 to 1794, including three girls and three boys.
[2][7]
Sadly, Catherine died on 8 Nov 1795, at the age of just 33. She was survived by her husband Antoine and multiple young children. Fortunately for them - and numerous descendants of the Auger, Benoit, Carré, Godard and Naud families - Antoine remarried the following year to Marguerite Chapdelaine, and later to Marie St-Martin.
