Mary Ellen Myer was born on March 5, 1850 in Mount Sterling, Choctaw, Alabama, United States, ^[1] daughter of Solomon Myer (~1821–1890) and Amanda Alexander (~1830–1891).

In 1850, Ellen was living in Choctaw County, Alabama. ^[2]

In 1860, Ellen (10) was living in Clarke County, Mississippi. ^[3]

Ellen (17) married Edgar William Couch (25) (born on June 21, 1842 in Mobile, Alabama; son of Rev Alexander B Couch and Rebecca Ann Wilkinson) on November 19, 1867 in Shubuta, Clarke. ^[4] Their children were:
