European Aristocracy
Sir Edward Mosley was a member of the aristocracy in England.

A royalist during the Civil War. In March 1642/43 he was captured by Parliamentary forces at Middlewich, Cheshire, and subsequently fined £4,200 plus an annual payment of £64 after the Battle of Middlewich (on March 13, 1642 by the Julian calendar); ([1]; "Mosley Memoranda", p. 11). On September 21 1647 he paid a further fine of £4,874 to get repossession of his estates. In January 1647/48 he was acquitted of rape.

Birth

Edward was born in 1616 -- the third known child of Rowland Mosley and his second wife, Anne (Sutton) Mosley.

Baptism

Edward was baptized on September 15, 1616, at St. James' Chapel, Didsbury, Lancashire, England; under the heading "September" in 1616, the baptismal record reads, "Edward Mosley son of Mr. Rowland Mosley esq. 15th" (see also "Mosley Memoranda", p. 10).

Marriage

On November 15, 1636, at age 20, he was married to Maria ("Mary") Cutler, daughter of Sir Gervase Cutler and Elizabeth Bentley at Chorlton Chapel, Chorlton, Lancashire, England. because "an early marriage was thought desirable"; the marriage record at St James' Chapel, Didsbury reads "Edwarde Mosley Esq and Mris Mary Cutler, married at Chorlton Chap 15" [2]; "Mosley Memoranda", p. 11; "Booker", p. 72).

Titles and Offices

On July 10, 1640, Edward was created 1st Baronet of Rolleston and Hough End by King Charles I ([3]; "Mosley Memoranda", p. 10) for services to the Crown. Sir Edward served as High Sheriff of Staffordshire in 1642.

He lived at Rolleston, Staffordshire, England. He lived at Manchester, Lancashire, England

Death

According to[4], "the dissipation of his former life had exhausted a frame not remarkable for its natural strength, and he expired at Hough End in December 1657".

Burial

He was buried on December 4, 1657 at St James' Chapel, Didsbury, Lancashire, England; under the heading "December" in 1657 the burial record reads, "Sir Edward Mosley Barronett, who was Lord of the Houghe and Manchester ...4" (see also "Booker", p. 73; "Mosley Memoranda", p. 11).
