  1. Currently unable to locate birth, death and marriage records but they were confirmed by the Sons of the American Revolution, citing Sgt. Jeremiah Morgan Family Tree Ancestry Profile U.S., Sons of the American Revolution Membership Applications, 1889-1970, SAR membership national number 74353, state number 919
  2. Variations of Elizabeth’s name (Connell, Connally, Connelly, Connolly and McConnel on FamilySearch), there is a marriage record of John Connelly & Margaret Oldham getting married. I have ordered DAR records and there is a letter to my Great Aunt (Mrs. Bert R. Smith “Beulah Ethel Morgan Smith”), 28 Oct 1947 from the Circuit Court of Lunenburg County, Lunenburg, VA:

“We do not have the marriage record of Jeremiah Morgan who married Elizabeth. Jeremiah Morgan’s will was admitted to record in 1805 and is found in Will Book 6, page 102. In this will he mentions his wife Elizabeth, his daughters Elizabeth Ragsdale and Sarah Ragsdale and his sons, Jesse, John and Thomas. John Connell whose will was admitted to record in 1800 and is found in Will Book 5, page 180 mentions his daughter Elizabeth Morgan and grandson Jesse Morgan. I believe that this is sufficient proof that Jeremiah Morgan married Elizabeth Connell.” The paperwork includes Jeremiah’s will but not John Connell’s (I found an abstract listing of a will inventory on page 111 that mentions John Connelly, not John Connell).

  1. There are so many variations of her name. My DAR ancestors show the name Elizabeth Connell and John Connelly’s DAR records reflect Connelly (sometimes spelled Connally in the application). Since the DAR records of ancestors for John Connelly and Margaret Oldham are spelled with a “y” at the end that is the name I will go with.
  2. Variations on exact date of birth. On the DAR application they are estimating the year of birth as 1738. No known birth, marriage death records appear to be known and available except as noted on the US, Sons of the American Revolution Membership Application (1889-1970) and the US, Daughters of the American Revolution Membership Application
  3. Jeremiah Morgan Will Abstracts which were in the supporting documents of Jeremiah Morgan to my Great Aunt Beulah Ethel Morgan Smith which was for the Morgan Family Reunion Jul 1950 (101st |Anniversary of John James Morgan):

Signed John L. Morgan, Executor William J. Neblett, Witnesses Sterling Neblett, Jr., William A. Reese Jeremiah Morgan, 1805, p 102 Lunenburg Co, VA Wife Elizabeth, daughters, Elizabeth Ragsdale, Sarah Ragsdale, sons, Jesse, John, Thomas based on 1810, 1820, 1830 census records for Jesse Morgan (13 Jul 2023)

  1. There a reference on Ancestry that Jeremiah was married to a Mary, the record is from Tennessee. The DAR application for Jeremiah shows birth and death were in Virginia and references his wife Elizabeth, not a Mary. So unless I can confirm that Jeremiah married Mary I will not be including her in my list.
