Biography

This profile is part of the Morgan Name Study.

Thomas married Elizabeth Maclin on 17 November 1783 in Brunswick, Virginia, United States.[1]

Thomas Morgan was born about 1763 in Brunswick, Colony of Virginia, son of Jeremiah Morgan (1738–1805) and Elizabeth Connelly (~1740–~1780).

Possibly owned a Plantation in Virginia, also references to him being a soldier

Thomas died in 1815 in Lunenburg, Virginia, United States. There are some historical documents that indicate Thomas was born in Wales and since his father was born and died in Virginia, chances are this is not that Thomas. It does make reference to him being imprisoned in Georgia and that he was Private in the Revolutionary War. Since his father, brother (application for Jesse Morgan in the Sons of the American Revolution) and grandfather served in the military that is possibly true but I cannot a definite source as there are alot of Thomas Morgan's on Ancestry (updated 13 Jul 2023)

There are many Thomas Morgan's in Virginia unless I confirm other family members I'm going to assume that the Will Records are lost.

Research Notes

  1. Ancestry Family Tree and there are marriage records but no reference to her being a daughter of Thomas. There is another daughter Mary B. that is also born in may need a profile.
  2. The references to Thomas Morgan Ancestry and FamilySearch family trees note other Ancestry members documents. They cite marriage records and not specifically birth & death records. Will continue to research (13 Jul 2023)
  3. Unable to locate individual birth records but there are later records that show marriage and census (unfortunately, his parents died in 1810 & 1815 and the census records prior to 1850 do not share a lot of info. (updated 13 Jul 2023)
  4. Unable to locate individual birth record on Eleanor, just an Ancestry Family Tree and there are marriage records but no reference to her being a daughter of Thomas. There is another daughter Mary B. that is also born in 1800 so it's possible it's the same person but her middle initial is B. Will continue to search (updated 13 Jul 2023)
  5. Unable to confirm date of birth, one shows 1760, several show 1763. Will continue to research (updated 13 Jul 2023)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:
