Biography

The Barbour Collection of Connecticut Vital Records lists two children named Elisha Morgan born in Groton, Connecticut, on 7 March 1762. This one was a son of Solomon and Mary (Walworth) Morgan, whereas the other was Elisha Morgan (1762-), a son of Elijah and Eunice (Williams) Morgan.[1] Care should be observed not to confuse the two same named individuals with the same birth date and location.

This Elisha Morgan was an American Revolutionary War soldier. According to his online memorial page, he Fought in the battle of Groton Heights (Fort Griswold). Elisha Morgan - Escaped, Age 20. This account is corroborated by his listing among the casualties and escapees from the Ft. Griswold massacre [2].

Elisha Morgan (referred to with title 'Docr'), died 22 Apr 1796, at sea, in passage from Demerara, a region in South America to Groton [3]. Apparently his wife, Abigail (Morgan) Morgan, died with him.

After the deaths of Elisha and his wife, John Morgan Sr. was appointed guardian of the children, and John Morgan Jr. was appointed executor of the estate.
