Joseph Morcom was born in Gwennap, Cornwall, England.

Joseph was born in Gwennap, Cornwall late 1843/early 1844. His birth was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1844 in Redruth Union.[1]

In the 1851 census, John, age 6, was recorded as the son of Richard and Hannah Morcom in St Agnes, Cornwall, England.[2]

Joseph (age Full) married Anne Caroline Evans (age Full) on 22 September 1868 in Minera, Denbighshire, Wales.[4]

His marriage was registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1868 in Wrexham, Denbighshire.[5]

In the 1871 census Joseph (age 28), Mining Agent, was the head of household in Esclusham Above, Denbighshire, Wales.[6]

In October 1874 Joseph was one of a large number of invited guests of notables, engineers and other interested parties, to witness blasting experiments carried out at Minera. Others present included William Ewart Gladstone MP.[7]

Joseph was the foreman of a jury at an inquest in June 1876. The jury were required to the view the body of a 5 month old infant who had died weighing only 8 pounds. Addressing the jury, the coroner "said that he had been coroner for 30 years, but had never been so shocked as he had been that day". A difficult case to be part of and made no less easy no doubt by the fact that Joseph had young children of his own.[8]

He died aged 35 on 22 January 1880 in Denbighshire, Wales and his death was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1880 in the Wrexham district.[9]

Joseph was buried in Wrexham Cemetery, Wrexham, Denbighshire.[10]

His estate passed probate on 10 July 1880 in St. Asaph. [11]
